New Duet

Bill T Jones and Arnie Zane Dance Company
Joyce Theater, New York, NY , 1996

Choreographer Bill T Jones
Lighting By Gregory Bain

Performed by Bill T Jones and Odile Reine-Adelaïde

The dance is something of a tease, depositing as it does two powerful, subtle performers in what looks like a ropeless boxing ring, then seldom letting them draw close. Mr. Jones and Ms. Reine-Adelaide might be two old friends engaged in a far-ranging but carefully cool conversation full of piquant and wistful allusions to the past they share. “New Duet” is set to folk songs from Madagascar and music by John Oswald and Laurel McDonald, with lighting by Gregory Bain and stylish costumes by Ms. Maslova.
